"County District" is your county commission district
The May 5th primary is where Democratic and Republican voters each choose their party's nominee for county commission. If you're registered with a party, this is your chance to have a say in who represents that party in the general election. The August 6th general election is the one that decides who actually serves as your District 1 commissioner. Both elections matter, so mark your calendar for both.
County commissioners approve the Putnam County budget and set the property tax rate, deciding how your money is spent on things like roads, schools, emergency services, and public safety. They also oversee community services, handle property tax disputes, and work on economic development. Simply put, your commissioner is your most direct voice in how the county is run.
If you live in Putnam County Commission District 1, your precinct is Capshaw School (1 Cougar Ln, Cookeville, TN 38501)
If you'd like to vote early, you can do so at the Putnam County Election Commission (705 County Services Dr, Cookeville, TN 38501)
On Election Day, precinct hours are 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
