On Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, Tennessee Tech beat Monmouth 38-14 in the first game at the renovated Tucker Stadium in Cookeville. That win kicked off Tennessee Tech football’s 2026 season, the Golden Eagles’ first in the Southern Conference (SoCon) after 76 years in the Ohio Valley Conference.
As a Tennessee Tech alum and Cookeville resident, I’ve watched this stadium project go from demolition to opening night and I couldn’t be more proud of TTU or Cookeville.
Tennessee Tech spent nearly $60 million to demolish and rebuild the West Side of Tucker Stadium, which has been home to Golden Eagle football since 1966. During the 2024 and 2025 seasons, every fan sat on the East Side while crews worked across the field.
The new 86,790-square-foot West Side brings:
The historic East Side got new paint, new handrails and six food trucks for every home game. The Christman Company served as construction manager and general contractor.

For Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland, this is bigger than football. A full stadium on Saturday means busy restaurants, hotels and shops across Putnam County, and a venue that can host events for years to come.
Tennessee Tech christened the new Tucker Stadium with a 38-14 win over Monmouth on Aug. 29, 2026. It was a Top 25 FCS matchup: Tech came in ranked No. 14 and Monmouth No. 22 in the Stats Perform poll, and the two programs had never played before.

Quarterback Jax Leatherwood threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns, two of them to Qua Ashley. The game was tied 7-7 in the first quarter before Tech pulled away, leading 17-7 at halftime and 31-7 early in the fourth. You can read the full AP game recap here.
The university built the whole night around the opening: a ribbon cutting for the new West Side, a sold-out student tailgate park, giveaways, a postgame drone show and pregame and halftime shows from the 190-member Golden Eagle Marching Band.

Tennessee Tech is 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Southern Conference as of Oct. 6, 2026, with four home games left at Tucker Stadium. The Golden Eagles’ first loss came Oct. 3, a 44-20 upset at Western Carolina.
